Podcast Review – Your Own Backyard

So I eventually landed on this podcast today. It’s the story of the disappearance and clear murder of Kristin Smart in 1996.

Now, it’s rather infuriating because it’s abundantly clear who killed her, but police bungled the situation from Jump Street.

THAT however isn’t the point of my post.

Through interviews with the people who knew the creep that most likely murdered her, they all said that there was always just something ‘off’ about him.

And one woman, who sort of befriended him while they worked together explained that she only did so because she “felt sorry for him” because he was an outsider and no one liked him.

Here’s the thing about that –
EVERYONE isn’t wrong. I mean, statistically, what are the odds of that person just being a really great guy that everyone has gotten the wrong vibe from?

I think when you see someone that **NO ONE*** likes…that everyone says is ‘creepy’ or off putting, there’s generally a sound reason for that. It’s not happenstance.

Hell, even the dorkiest of dorks…the geekiest of geeks…the nerdiest of nerds back in the day, had other dorktronic nerdmogeeks to hang out with, so I’m not talking about people who other people just don’t deem ‘cool’ for childish social reasons in whatever moment in time that they decide makes one ‘uncool’.

I’m talking about when **no one** likes a person because they make them uneasy…I think that’s often human instinct telling us something.
And I think we’ve tried to tell ourselves that listening to it makes us bad people.

But maybe it’s just something that we’re supposed to listen to.
