Movie Review – The Gentlemen

We're obviously early in, but I already have my favorite film of 2020 thus far. I LOVE a character driven story, and Guy Ritchie is a filmmaker that really shines when he does these kinds of films.'Lock,...

Music Brings Back Memories, Both Good & Bad

The other night, we were out and a song came on…’I Hear A Symphony’ from Diana Ross and The Supremes.

I told Allison that when we first moved to Delaware in 1979, my stepfather would make dinner while he played his records. I’d always argue that everything could be better if he’d just let me put on Hot Hits 98 WCAU FM…but he wasn’t having it.

Out of his record collection, there were two that were always featured.

‘Diana Ross and The Supremes – Anthology’ and ‘Martha Reeves and The Vandellas – Anthology’

Both album covers were similar from a design standpoint, with one being silver/grey and the other being purple. I went and found them both so you can see what I mean.

With every dinner, he made a salad. Back then there were these salad dressings that came in a packet. I don’t know what was added to them to make them be what they were supposed to be, but he always made French. In a green bottle that was made for salad dressings like this.

I cannot hear any song from either of these anthologies without tasting that salad dressing in my mind. It’s impossible for me not to.

And then….it’s impossible for me to not attach any of that to the tragedy that my mother caused. Because everything….every instance of every…thing…is attached to that now for me….and for the rest of my days.

There are no pure and innocent memories left for me. Even things as simple as this.

I’m not telling you this for sympathy, because that’s not my get down. I’m just telling you this so you know that we’re all broken and scarred a little…or sometimes…to the extreme.

But you’re better than the worst things in your life.

So live it that way.

So I eventually landed on this podcast today. It's the story of the disappearance and clear murder of Kristin Smart in 1996. Now, it's rather infuriating because it's abundantly clear who killed her, but...

Shamokin Must Be a MAGICAL Place to Live

This was JUST brought to my attention last night, but you may have seen it before. Imagine a town so bereft of anything culturally relevant, that a Dunkin' DoNITS being temporarily closed could cause this...
