Anudder Movie Review – Shazam!

Has D.C.'s turning of the cinematic corner continued? Director David F. Sanbourne brilliantly injects the feels of 80s films like 'Big' and 'Goonies' and others as he tells his original version of Shazam....

James Ingram Has Punched Out.

Yet another personality from my youth has stepped up to the mortal time clock and punched their ticket for their last day on the job.

James Ingram, the incredibly well respected R&B singer whose music found itself serving as part of the score of our lives all through the ’80s, has left us.

I’m not going to lie to you, there isn’t a single James Ingram album on my playlist. But that doesn’t mean that the man doesn’t hold a special place in my heart.

By the way, have you noticed how we’ve stopped saying “In my CD collection.” now?  Why, one would sound like a straight up freak talking about CDs in 2019, wouldn’t they?

No, sir, or ma’am…or however you identify, as they say,  James Ingram holds a special place in my heart because his song ‘Just Once’ serves as the aural backdrop of what I believe to be thee most realistic, and soul crushing ending to the journey of the ‘nice guy’ in an ’80s teen film…ever!
‘The Last American Virgin’.

If you’re familiar with the film, you already can see Gary driving away in his ridiculous pink station wagon while the tears trickle down his face, as the reality of the Mayor of Friendzoneville handing him the key to the city sets in.

If you aren’t familiar with the scene, I’m going to treat you to it now.

And after you watch, I think you’ll agree with me when I say…“Thank you, Mr. Ingram!”.
