Go Ahead, Call Me Fredo One More Time!

All day I'm seeing people saying that 'Fredo' isn't the 'N Word' for Italians. I disagree. Sure, to the rest of society, and in the big picture...no, it's not the N Word. But to Italians? I said it before...

Again and Again and Again and Again…

Kevin Smith suggested that everyone do something creative today in honor of those who lost their lives in the mass shootings over this last week. Well, I don't much feel like drawing because I'm...

Glass – Anuddercast Movie Review

So, 19 years ago, I found myself taken in by a film called ‘Unbreakable’. It wasn’t meant for everyone apparently, because I remember people I recommended it to, telling me it was garbage. But it was meant for people like me. People who used to go to  Comic-Cons, before Comic-Cons were a place to be.

Yet in ‘Unbreakable’, there would not be the wow factor of ‘Iron Man’, there would not be the web slinging of Spider-Man, and there would be no outer space adventures with a living tree and a raccoon.

There would just be….”What if” there were something beyond you and me?

A sequel was of course demanded by fans all of these years,
but one was never coming, we were told.
And then magic happened.

In the very closing shots of a movie called ‘Split’, the camera found itself dialing in on the customers in a Philadelphia diner watching a local news report about the serial killer whom you spent the previous two hours captivated by, and who believed himself to have super powers, leaving one woman to say “That reminds me of that other guy from all those years ago….what was his name again?” and to everyone’s surprise, Bruce Willis’ ‘David Dunn’ responds…..”Mr. Glass”.

I personally lost my mind while I was watching with Dakota, who had no idea that the hell my problem was.

So this brings us to the reason you’re reading this..if you still are.

‘Glass’.

Now, this is easily one of the most polarizing films I think I’ve seen in recent memory. You either hate it…or you love it.
You either think it was a completely wasted opportunity like film critic, John Campea. Or you were moved to tears like film critic Jeff Sneider.

Well, add me to the Sneider camp.
Not that I cried, but I understood why he did.
For me, this film wrapped up the stories of the characters that I’ve loved for 19 years in a more perfect way than I ever could have imagined.

I LOVE what Shyamalan did here.
And the ending, for an old fan like me, was very bittersweet.

I want to go into great detail about things, I want to tell you about visual moments that were impactful to me….but I can’t.
If you haven’t seen it, I don’t want to ruin anything.

This film is a slow burn, much like the film that gave birth to this universe, but it’s payoff was equally fantastic.

And still in my head rings the line…
“This isn’t a limited edition, Mama…..this is an origin story.”

What have you done indeed, Elijah?
